Hundreds will don academic robes this week to be recognised as part of several Charles Darwin University graduation ceremonies in Darwin.
Several high-profile attendees will be honoured including Professor Jonathan Carapetis and The Honourable Dean Mildren RFD QC.
Professor Carapetis will be recognised as a leading mind in the Australian health field, with particular expertise in Indigenous child health and will be honoured with Doctor of Science, Honoris Causa.
The Honourable Dean Mildren RFD QC will be honoured with a Doctor of Laws, Honoris Causa.
Thousands of VET and higher education students will mark the culmination of their university studies at one of three mid-year CDU graduation ceremonies in Darwin today and tomorrow (May 23 and 24).
Tonight’s ceremony will recognise graduands from the Faculty of Law, Education, Business and Arts, along with the Faculty of Vocational Education and Training: School of Business and Service Industries. The Occasional Address will be delivered by The Honourable Dean Mildren RFD QC.
The May 24 morning ceremonies include the Faculty of Law, Education, Business and Arts School of Education, the Australian Centre for Indigenous Knowledges and Education, and the Faculty of Vocational Education and Training School of Trades. Ms Diana Jarvis will receive a Companion of the University and the Occasional Address will be delivered by Mr Ken Davies, CE of the Department of Education and Children’s Services.
The second ceremony on May 24 will recognise the academic achievements of students from the Faculty of Engineering, Health, Science and the Environment, Menzies School of Health Research, Faculty of Vocational Education and Training: School of Primary Industries and School of VET Health, Community and Children’s Services. The Friday evening ceremony Occasional Address will be delivered by Professor Carapetis.
The ceremony in Alice Springs will be held on June 13. The Occasional Address will be delivered by Doctor of Science, Honoris Causa, Professor John Wakerman.
The ceremonies will be held at the Darwin Convention Centre and the Alice Springs Convention Centre.
