The Northern Territory Architecture Awards has given top honours to the NT Medical Program and Allied Health Infrastructure (Pharmacy) Facility located on Charles Darwin University’s Casuarina campus.
The building by DKJ Projects Architecture and Woodhead also received the Tracy Memorial Award, the Reverend John Flynn Award for public architecture, as well as a commendation in the Colorbond Award category for Steel Architecture and also took home the People's Choice Award.
The panel made up of local and interstate architecture and design professionals said the impressive university initiative provided the architects with a complex and ambitious brief that they have embraced enthusiastically.
“In response to the innovative program at CDU intended to recruit Indigenous students, the architects have provided a building that avoids the institutional flavour of many hospitals, clinics and universities with buildings that are lively, generous, open, shaded and comfortable,” the jury said.
