A passionate ecologist and environmental scientist has taken over the helm of one of Charles Darwin University’s two higher education faculties.

Professor Sue Carthew has just taken up her appointment as Pro Vice-Chancellor of the Faculty of Engineering, Health, Science and the Environment.

She was formerly Head of the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences at the University of Adelaide.

With a career spanning more than 20 years, Professor Carthew has a wealth of research and leadership experience and is keen to continue to strengthen CDU’s research capacity and profile.

“CDU is a young and dynamic university with exciting possibilities,” Professor Carthew said. “I look forward to working in unison with staff to grow and consolidate research intensity and quality education.”

She is a member of the Council of Australian Environmental Deans and Directors, and has played key roles in state and national environmental decision-making forging close ties with industry and government bodies.

An ecologist at heart, Professor Carthew said she hoped to continue with her research programs in her capacity as PVC of EHSE and maintain her significant role in the training of postgraduate research students.
