Calling all budding writers. This could be an opportunity for your creative or academic writing to win you generous cash prizes.

The 2012 Northern Territory Literary Awards are closing next week (Wednesday, 29 February), and all talented Territorians are encouraged to enter a range of writing styles, including short stories, poetry and academic essays.

Run by the Northern Territory Library, the awards aim to unearth the Territory’s best poems, short stories, essays and scripts. There are also specialist categories for youth writers and writers who identify as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander. Other categories include, scripts, screenplays and travel writing.

The 2012 Northern Territory Literary Awards is supported by Charles Darwin University, through the CDU Essay and CDU Bookshop Travel Short Story awards.

Entry forms can be obtained from the website www.ntl.nt.gov.au or from the Northern Territory Library, Parliament House.

Entries close on 29 February 2012. Winners will be announced at a ceremony at Parliament House on 10 May 2012.
