The “Alan Jones Highlights” program will not return to the Territory FM airwaves at the end of its two-week suspension period, which expires today.
As the holder of Territory FM’s community licence, Charles Darwin University (CDU) announced earlier this month that it had suspended the program following comments made by Mr Jones about the death of Prime Minister Julia Gillard’s father.
The Vice-Chancellor of CDU, Professor Barney Glover, said this afternoon that extensive consultation had taken place during the past fortnight to gauge community opinion on the future of the program on TFM.
Professor Glover said the Territory FM community advisory group, which met early this afternoon, made the recommendation to the university as licensee that the program not return.
The radio station’s on-line survey on the issue showed that 55.8% of respondents were in favour of removing the program from the TFM schedule. A further 3.3% recommended that the suspension be extended for another month. A total of 459 people had responded to the survey.
The Vice-Chancellor said he appreciated the feedback that members of the community had provided during this process.
