Seminar explores conservation in Lower Mekong

CDU Phd candidate Luke Preece will present results of his research exploring strategies employed by organisations in forest conservation areas in the Lower Mekong, at CDU tomorrow, February 19.

For the past three years Luke has worked in collaboration with staff at the Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR), Indonesia, on a project to explore the tradeoffs between conservation and development in the Lower Mekong countries.

He spent about one year in Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam, travelling to more than 15 conservation areas to collect data for CIFOR and his own research.

He has also helped to facilitate eight workshops that brought together conservation and development practitioners, to discuss the research and pertinent issues within each of the countries.

Luke will be in Darwin for the next three weeks before heading back to Bogor, Indonesia, where he is currently based.

Luke's presentation is part of the School for Environmental Research (SER) Seminar Series 2010 and is at CDU's Casuarina campus, Blue 1.1.01, from 1-2pm.
