Kirsty Bulluss has demonstrated her talents in a national vocational training competition and achieved a silver award for her hairdressing skills.
The 22-year-old hairdresser and former Charles Darwin University apprentice has just returned from the Worldskills Australia National Competition in Brisbane that saw 500 vocational students from around Australia compete in more than 50 categories ranging from hairdressing to mechanics.
Kirsty, who works at I AM Hair and Spa Lounge in Palmerston said the standard of competition was high.
"There were 24 competitors in hairdressing alone and it was tough going, so I was thrilled to get second place," she said.
“None of this would have been possible without the support of my employer Sonia Kinna from I Am Hair and Spa Lounge and Charles Darwin University lecturer Bronwyn Hudson.”
Kirsty joined eight other CDU students representing Tourism, Primary Industries, Cookery, Business Services and Welding, and included VET In Schools (VETis) student Brienna Logie, who collected a Bronze award for her Tourism management skills.
The year 12 Kormilda College and CDU Certificate III in Tourism student impressed industry judges with her talents in developing itineraries, writing newspaper articles, and presenting her views on tourism's impact on the Australian economy.
She thanked her tourism lecturer Caroline Gallacher, who chaperoned Brienna at the event.
"She has put a huge effort in to help me prepare for this award and I am very grateful," Brienna said.
