Charles Darwin University students wowed judges and a full house with a spectacular display at the Apprentice Hairdressing Show in Alice Springs last night.
Nineteen apprentice hairdressers demonstrated a high level of creative and technical expertise as they spent the day preparing more than 70 models for the catwalk.
Among the most visually spectacular was the avant-garde category which attracted 13 entries. Third year apprentice Steffi Hayes took the honours with twins Savannah and Darcy Goryan in a big hair “beehive” arrangement.
Steffi showed prodigious talent by winning two other categories – men’s cut with scissors and colour, and colour, cut and style.
First year apprentice Tilly Laycock won the peoples’ choice category with her model wearing an eye-catching triple-tier arrangement that took two hours to prepare.
Alice Springs Campus Director Paul Fitzsimons described the evening as a first-class spectacle.
“Last night the Alice Springs hairdressing community celebrated a night to remember with the CDU apprentices showing class and style,” he said.
