A Charles Darwin University graduate and internationally recognised environmental scientist has been awarded the Australian Mining Prospect “Mining Female of the Year” award.
Michelle Iles, a Territory-trained expert in environmental management won the award, announced recently in Sydney.
Ms Iles received the award for her work to improve evidence-based decision making on environmental issues in the Territory, including Jabiru’s Ranger Uranium Mine.
She acknowledged the team she led while the Manager of Water Sciences at Energy Resources Australia, for their combined effort to improve evidence-based decision making, and in particular, water management and ecosystem protection.
The Environment Protection Authority Chair Professor Grahame Webb congratulated Michelle on her award and said it was great news to have a local recognised as an expert in environmental management at mine sites.
