Charles Darwin University will become an arts hub on Friday as Arts students merge to bring together music, art and design to showcase their skills.
The end of year show for CDU’s Creative Arts students, entitled “102- Art from the hotlands”, will celebrate the Northern Territory Centenary (1911-2011) and all that is unique in the Territory’s community of creative people.
Head of School, Creative Arts and Humanities Associate Professor Bill Wade said the annual exhibition was held to showcase the talent of CDU’s Creative Arts students and invite industry and the community in to see their creative works.
“This is an important opportunity to highlight the role CDU is playing in enhancing the creative industries and participation rates within the Territory’s creative arts sectors,” he said.
Mr Wade said this year’s exhibit will be bigger than ever with CDU’s creative students coming together to exhibit.
“There will be a range of works from 3D animation and digital projections/short films, to painting, sculpture, drawing, printmaking and design.
“Also for the first time this year three remote Indigenous community groups will be represented in the exhibition from Tiwi Designs, Jilamara and Ngukurr.”
The exhibition will officially open on Friday, 28 October at 6pm and will feature live music at the University Amphitheatre. Artwork will be exhibited in Buildings Orange 9, 10 and 11 and the Nan Geise Gallery.
The public is invited to attend the opening, or can view the exhibitions on Saturday, 29 October 10am to 3pm and Monday 31 to Wednesday, 2 November from 9am to 4pm.
