Twenty of Alice Springs’ most promising hairdressers will demonstrate their artistic and technical skills at the CDU Apprentice Hairdressing Show at Alice Springs campus on Monday, September 19.

Hairdressing lecturer Linda Manning said this year’s group was highly talented and competitive, and that judges could expect to see an excellent standard of craftsmanship.

“We’ve set the bar very high this year and I’m pleased that the girls are responding with enthusiasm and commitment,” she said.

The competitors will include Worldskills runner-up Jessica Scotchmer, Apprentice of the Year Leanne Hull and Most Improved Apprentice Deanne Haskard.

Ms Manning said the apprentices would work on about 60 models, each of whom would participate in a fashion parade at the end of the day.

“There will be lots of colour, creativity and energy, and in the Avant-garde category plenty of extravagance and a touch of the outrageous.”

The event will be staged in the Desert Lantern Restaurant at Alice Springs campus on Grevillea Drive from 6.30pm.

Ms Manning said tickets cost $5 each and were selling quickly. They can be bought at either CDU Hairdressing or at the Desert Lantern, or by contacting 8959 5225.
