A health technologist, a world class dancer and a young entrepreneur will be among the first round of speakers to front an upcoming TEDxDarwin event.

An independently organised conference entitled, “Blood Sweat and Ideas”, TEDxDarwin will present stimulating new ideas from Darwin on issues of global importance.

TEDxDarwin spokesperson Noel Hanssens said TEDxDarwin would bring an exciting new conference format to Darwin, which combined a diverse group of speakers aimed at building capacity in the community to develop and explore new ideas.

“The combination of a diverse group of speakers and high-calibre artistic performers will form a mix that is sure to lead to exciting new ideas,” he said.

“The event will offer the Darwin community an opportunity to share its passion and ideas with communities in Australia and the world.”

Mr Hanssens said the organisers were excited to have Charles Darwin University as its catalyst partner and major sponsor.

“CDU is passionate about sharing ideas and exposing people to local, regional and global communities. They make the ideal partner for TEDxDarwin,” Mr Hanssens said.

CDU Pro-Vice Chancellor Learning, Teaching and Community Engagement, Associate Professor Martin Carroll said the partnership would enable CDU to further demonstrate its support for building capacity in the community and to encourage innovation, network building and the power of ideas.

“The TEDx concept is fast becoming a global phenomenon, and with Darwin’s richness of local and international talent and inspiration, it is an ideal place to host TEDx conferences,” Dr Carroll said.

The full-day, independently organised local event, licensed by TED, will be held on Saturday, 6 August at the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory.
