CDU educator named in Australian of the Year finalists for NT

One of Australia’s leading Indigenous educators, Professor Michael Christie has been named as a finalist for the Northern Territory Australian of the Year Awards.

Professor of Education with Charles Darwin University’s School of Education, Michael Christie was recognised for his work in remote communities and the development of Indigenous language programs at CDU.

Professor Christie's nomination as a finalist is the latest in a long line of stellar achievements that have included a Senior Australian Teaching and Learning Fellowship and being part of the CDU Yolngu Studies team that took out the Prime Minister’s Award for University Teacher of the Year in 2005.

Other finalists in this year’s NT Australian of the Year Awards included legendary footballer Michael Long, youth worker David Cole, and Indigenous youth advocates Ian and Lyn Conway.

The Northern Territory award winner will be announced later this month and will be in the running to become the Australian of the Year.
