A trio of master Territory bakers has just missed out on top spot at this year’s Australian Artisan Baking Cup in Sydney.
Charles Darwin University bakery lecturers, Robert Schwerdt and David Barker, along with Outback Bakery’s Tim Modra, placed second overall from nine other teams from across the country during the three-day competition which finished recently.
The team’s quintessentially Territorian creation, featuring a Kakadu inspired motif, impressed judges and fellow competitors alike in the “Australian Icons” category. The team also submitted well received entries into two new categories for this year’s competition, the Healthy Nutritional Bread category and Cold Sandwich category.
The 4th Australian Artisan Baking Cup was held from June 21-23 in Sydney.
