This year’s Charles Darwin University Art Collection exhibition will be open for public viewing for most of May.

Entitled Gifted II – Recent Acquisitions, the exhibition will run from May 7 to 28 at the Gallery on the Casuarina campus.

The exhibition is the second in a series focusing on the art of benefaction and comprises a selection of work by established and emerging Australian artists, both Indigenous and non-Indigenous, and South-East Asian artists whose work demonstrates a connection to the Northern Territory and adjoining regions, including South-East Asia.

The CDU Foundation, through its Art Acquisition Fund, has made acquisitions possible in the past year including paintings, works on paper and sculptures.

The University Art Collection has also attracted new external benefactors and received generous gifts of art work from artist-donors, who included former students, Art School staff or artists-in-residence at CDU, and other members of the arts community.

In 2008, continuing a tradition started in 1993 by the Art School’s Printmaking Studio, a number of workshop proofs of limited edition prints were donated to the CDU Art Collection by Northern Editions Printmaking Studio and the artists who created them.

In late 2009, with the opening of the new Administrative Building on the Casuarina campus, the CDU Art Collection will have a dedicated Museum of Art to display its permanent holdings, dating from 1980.
