An opportunity to sample the workplace and gain valuable employment experience has paid dividends for a group of Year 10 students from Marrara Christian College.

The students recently completed an intensive one-week Work Experience Program coordinated by CDU’s People Management Division Indigenous Employment Team.

The Indigenous Work Experience Program gave 10 students the opportunity to undertake work experience in a variety of university departments including the printery, corporate communications, student services, business, aquaculture and arts.

Marrara student, Shayla Daye said the entire experience had been a highlight.

“Work experience at CDU has been great and the support staff helped us in deciding which areas were right for our personalities,” she said.

“It was really exciting to see the University’s arts department, meet the lecturers, and see all the awesome work they do."

Wanita Costales, echoed Shayla's enthusiasm about the program and said she couldn’t wait to start each morning because it was exciting and fun.

One day hoping to join the police force, Wanita said the hands-on nature of the job and sense of helping people really appealed to her.
