Scholarships recognise CDU’s finest

Charles Darwin University’s finest recently got their just deserts at the Semester 2 Scholarships Presentation Ceremony held on the Casuarina campus.

Five of the 91 scholarships offered this year were awarded at the recent Darwin ceremony.

Delivering the welcome address, CDU Vice-Chancellor, Professor Barney Glover said the scholarships were critical in ensuring students from a wide variety of backgrounds were ensured the right to education.

He also thanked the 35 donors who had donated in excess of $460,000 overall this year.

Students awarded scholarships this semester were:

Jariah Kaissis - Bachelor of Behavioural Science
The Australian Federation of University Women - Indigenous Higher Education Scholarship

Shardai Brown - Certificate IIII Beauty Therapy
The Chief Minister’s study Scholarship for Women - Vocational Education & Training

Caillan Symons - Bachelor of Engineering Co-Op
The Department of Planning & Infrastructure Co-Op Scholarship in Engineering

Charlie Maillis - Graduate Diploma in Language Teaching
The Kosmos Foods Language Scholarship

Jacklyn Hayes - Certificate II Agricultural Science
The North Australian Pastoral Company Scholarship

In her closing address Director of Student Services, Debra Farrelly thanked the sponsors for their vision and commitment to providing opportunities to students.

“The benefits of these scholarships whether they be financial, text books laptops or work experience go a long way to helping Northern Territorian students achieve in their chosen fields,” she said.
