Long-time Territorian, Sarimah Buyong will join other future Indigenous leaders from around Australia at the upcoming 2009/2010 Indigenous Leadership Program.
An administrative assistant at Charles Darwin University, Ms Buyong was successful in her application to the program and will travel to Cairns for a series of workshops tailored to lead Indigenous people to bigger actions and opportunities.
More than 6000 Indigenous Australians have taken part in the Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs program since it started in 2004.
Mother of four, Ms Buyong said she was thrilled at the prospect of rubbing shoulders with other future Indigenous leaders and sharing a positive vision for Indigenous people everywhere.
“The program is designed to help emerging and potential leaders on their journey to stronger leadership, which in turn will build stronger families and stronger communities,” she said.
The participants will take part in leadership activities, discuss Indigenous issues and develop important networks.
“Becoming an inspiring and effective leader who will make a positive difference to the lives of other Indigenous people, especially my children, is a huge priority for me personally,” she said.
Ms Buyong will attend a series of workshops from 2-7 August as a part of the program.
