A classical pianist, a performing artist and an award-winning songwriter are finalists in the Charles Darwin University Arts Award to be presented at the 2009 Northern Territory Young Achievers Awards.

The finalists, Tanika Richards, Judith McFarlane and Tashka Urban, were selected from a strong pool of applicants, highlighting the diversity and innovation of young people working in the arts across the Territory.

Category judge and Head of CDU’s School of Creative Arts and Humanities, Mr Bill Wade said he was impressed with the calibre of work by the finalists.

“The quality of work, commitment, creativity and diversity that this year’s finalists demonstrated is outstanding,” he said.

“The finalists are all exceptional young artists who have shown initiative and the commitment required to produce inspirational work.”

The finalists and winners of the Northern Territory Young Achiever Awards will be announced at a gala awards presentation dinner on Saturday, 28 March 2009.

The Young Achiever Awards acknowledge, encourage and promote the positive achievements of young people with the winner in each category receiving $2000 and a trophy.
