Dadang Christantos Such a Beautiful Morning, The Sun Rose and its Light Did Stab in the Back

CDU masters candidate Allison Gray will provide a talk about Indonesian/Australian artist Dedang Christanto on Tuesday 27 May from 12pm to 1pm.

In a little over a decade from 1991-2003 Dadang Christanto emerged from relative obscurity to international recognition. But Eurocentric paradigms have restricted the reception to Dadang Christanto.

In her presentation Allison will discuss Christanto's work within the context of political and cultural events in Indonesia, and more specifically in Yogyakarta, central Java, where he mainly resided in the 1980s and 90s.

Allison Gray is a masters candidate in art history at Charles Darwin University. Her thesis is entitled Cultural activism to counter memorial: Indonesian/Australian artist Dadang Christanto 1975 - 2005.

This forum takes place in Blue 1, room 1 (C22.01), Casuarina campus, Charles Darwin University.
