More than 40 outstanding students at Charles Darwin University received recognition at a presentation ceremony at the Casuarina campus.

Some 44 students received scholarships during a ceremony in the Mal Nairn Auditorium before an audience of more than 165 family, friends and CDU staff.

The semester 1, 2008, scholarship prizes were supported by donors ranging from business and individuals.

The largest monetary award was from the Department of Planning and Infrastructure, which granted three scholarships worth $24,000 each, given over a four-year period.

A substantial monetary award was made available by oil and gas company ConocoPhillips with two scholarships worth $13,000 each over two years, plus an additional $1500 for professional development.

Some donors are offering more than one scholarship this year, including TIO (11 awards), NT Treasury (seven scholarships), Traditional Credit Union (six) and the George Alexander Foundation (14 awards).

National Australia Bank and Chief Minister’s Study Scholarships are new donors for 2008.

Some students were awarded several scholarships. Six received two awards, and two students received three prizes.

Three students who received scholarships were previous recipients of CDU scholarships in 2007.
