Visiting lecturer passes on his passion for paint

Charles Darwin University Vocational and Educational Training (VET) students recently participated in a training course conducted by House of Kolor’s global manager, Owen Webb, in custom painting techniques.

The VET students are all working towards a Certificate III in Automotive Vehicle Body.

As part of the course the students custom-painted trophies for an upcoming awards night, which will honour achievements by students, VET and local businesses.

The chance to attend training courses conducted by highly regarded professionals in their field is one of the many opportunities enjoyed by CDU’s VET students.

Owen is an international, modified and custom car expert, and judges at events all over the world. While in Darwin conducting the training course for the VET apprentices, Owen judged categories in the Powercruise motorsport competition.

“I do a lot of training around Australia and Asia usually in conjunction with judging car shows in those cities. I enjoy all training but especially working with young guys at VET because they show so much enthusiasm and willingness to learn about House of Kolor and custom paint in general. The students’ interest level is exceptionally high and they are frequently willing to work through breaks to get panels finished,” Owen said.
