Charles Darwin University alumnus and published author on Northern Territory history, Dr Tom Lewis has returned to Darwin after two years’ absence.
Dr Lewis (pictured)Â started part-time studies in 1996 toward a PhD in political policy making processes in federal offshore management while working for the Defence Department.
In 2000 Dr Lewis published his fourth book of NT history, and then left the Territory to teach at the Royal Australian Naval College in Jervis Bay as a naval officer.
Dr Lewis was awarded a Doctorate in Arts from CDU in 2004, and shortly after he and his family moved to Canberra, where he undertook research for the Department of Defence.
He was awarded an Order of Australia Medal in 2003 for services to naval history, after thoroughly overhauling the college's historical collection.
In 2006 he was asked to undertake a combat tour in Iraq and spent six months in Baghdad.
Dr Lewis has returned with his family to the Top End on a further military posting.
He continues to write, and is now also the editor of two magazines.
