A customised transportable built by Charles Darwin University Alice Springs students sold for $32,000 last week.

The CDU Alice Springs campus auctioned the two-room, 3.6 by 8 metre unit on-site at 11am on Friday.

It was created by construction and electrical apprentices using locally supplied materials.

Alice Springs businessman Keith Castle said he would develop the unit into a living area at his White Gums Caravan Park on the outskirts of town.

"I was at my limit, but was really happy with the purchase and will move it early next year," he said.

Head of Trades (Central) at CDU, Justin Busse said the sale covered building costs and enabled the purchase of some new equipment at the Alice Springs campus.

He thanked Frampton’s auctioneer David Forrest for his assistance, local building industry suppliers and consultants for their discounted rates and Keith for the purchase.

CDU thanks the following suppliers for their support: Stratco, Neeta Glass, Home Timber and Hardware, Territory Certifiers, Frampton First National and Dave Bottrall.
