Academic Language and Learning Support November workshops

Need help with essay writing? Need help with English language? November workshops start from Monday 10 November for internal and external, international and domestic students.

Please note: Times listed below are Darwin time; adjust the times for your state, remembering that Darwin doesn’t have daylight savings.

The following three programs are available in November:

Better Writing (BW) Essays: 10, 17 and 24 November – 3.30pm to 5pm (three classes of 1.5 hours)

Find out all you need to know about writing essays and reports with this online (Wimba) workshop: interpreting the question, outlining, researching, assessing relevance of texts, skimming, useful words and phrases, reading, making notes, paraphrasing, summarising, using academic language, qualifying, citing, referencing, editing, and report writing.

Log on where ever you are and join our virtual class-room.

Better English (BE) Verbs: 11 and 13 November (Orange 1.3.13) and 18, 20, 26 and 27 November (Orange 1.3.5) – 1pm to 2.30pm (six classes of 1.5 hours)

This Casuarina campus-based workshop will help you understand the beauty of using verbs well, whether speaking or writing. Good verbs add richness to your expression! (I prefer that you do BE Sentence Structure before you do BE Verbs).

Better English (BE) Sentence Structure: 11, 13, 18, 20, 26 and 27 November – 3.30pm to 5pm (six classes of 1.5 hours)

This online (Wimba) workshop will assist with parts of speech; simple, compound and complex sentences; and conjunctions. Once you get your head around the rules of writing sentences, your academic writing will be less painful.

Log on where ever you are and join our virtual classroom.

This is just the beginning. There are seven programs in all, and they’ll be repeated throughout 2009.
