The tireless work of Alice Springs-based child care workers and management was recognised at a ‘thank you’ function at the local Charles Darwin University campus last Friday, November 26.
CDU early childhood lecturers Heather Wilson and Sharon Spencer hosted the evening, as part of Children's Week and in recognition of the considerable pressures the industry endures struggling with a shortage of child care workers and places.
More than 50 people enjoyed the evening which included live entertainment and drinks.
Ms Wilson said the event celebrated the efforts of child care workers on behalf of the local community.
‘As a past carer, I only know too well the trials and tribulations of caring for others,’ she said.
Campus Administrator, Dianne Underwood was a strong supporter of the event and said the university was proud to host the evening.
‘It’s simply to acknowledge the efforts of child care workers in making sure children are looked after in a loving, safe environment,’ she said. ‘And carers, families and directors spoke of overwhelming gratitude and appreciation for this evening.’
Ms Underwood said she hoped to provide further functions at the university campus to recognise the work in the local community.
'Child care workers are just one of many groups in this town that deserve recognition for their excellent work,' she said.
