A Northern Territory bakery team has achieved exceptional results at this year’s National Bakeskills competition in Sydney.

The team, consisting of Charles Darwin University (CDU) apprentices Elliot Wilson and Priscilla Willcockson, placed second overall and received one of the two major awards.

The team took out the Best Display award with an intricate creation centred on World War II and the bombing of Darwin.

Bakery coordinator and lecturer, Robert Schwerdt said that CDU was quickly developing a reputation for excellence in baking.

“The Northern Territory and CDU are forging their own identity at a national level, demonstrating our Territory pride and a high level of competitiveness which is commendable to our young bakers travelling interstate,” he said.

The achievement makes the team the highest achieving baking contingent to represent the Northern Territory.

“The team and I would like to thank CDU and our sponsors Arafura Catering, Bidvest and All About Bakery Equipment for their support in making it all happen. We would not have been there if it was not for that support,” Mr Schwerdt said.
