2007 NT Try'a Trade Program

Charles Darwin University (CDU) in partnership with Group Training NT, Territory Construction Association and the Department of Employment, Education and Training will host Try’a Trade later this month.

Try’a Trade is a Worldskills Australia initiative that provides Year 9 students an opportunity to experience hands-on trade skills in a variety of fields. Activities will be practical and supervised by professional trades people and current apprentices, among them, Charles Darwin University staff.

Secondary schools liaison officer, Trisha Kohlweg said the event was an interactive program that provided students with an opportunity to have-a-go.

“Try’a Trade targets Year 9 students that are interested in a trade career and provides them with an opportunity to participate in small projects across a variety of demonstration areas under the supervision of qualified trades people,” she said.

“The activities are entertaining, informative and offer interested people access to some of the basic skills involved in a range of trades including automotive, hairdressing, horticulture and hospitality.”

‘Try’a Trade’ will take place from 18-21 September, 9am to 2.30pm at the Cyprus Community Function Centre, Batten Rd, Marrara (beside the Darwin North RSL Club).
