Students meet the sciences, engineering challenge

The Casuarina campus of Charles Darwin University is hosting the first Northern Territory Science and Engineering Challenge on Thursday, 23 August.

The event is presented by Engineers Australia Northern Division and Charles Darwin University. Last week’s Challenge in Alice Springs was a huge success.

Regional chair of the Northern Territory Challenge Coordinating Committee, Dan Baschiera said the organisers were looking forward to the 2007 Challenge.

‘This is a very exciting event and is keenly supported by our local community, in particular Engineers Australia, Rotary Club of Darwin North, Power & Water, National Science Week, Department of Employment, Education and Training, Department of Education, Science and Training, and local schools,’ he said.

The Challenge aims to inspire young people to consider a career in the sciences, engineering or other technology-related areas.

Dan said the Challenge represented a unique opportunity for young people in the Territory. ‘The hands-on, competitive nature of the Challenge allows students to experience the creative side of science and engineering in a fun atmosphere.’

The Challenge is aimed at years nine and ten students.
