Charles Darwin University (CDU) staff member Camille Lew Fatt has received a Palmerston NAIDOC Community Award as part of the recent NAIDOC Week celebrations.
Camille, coordinator of CDU’s Indigenous Apprenticeship Pilot Program, was honoured with the award for her dedication and outstanding contribution to Indigenous education.
“It is a great honour to receive this award in recognition for the work that I am doing, however it’s the positive feedback from my family and the community that inspires and motivates me to continue working on improving Indigenous education,” she said.
Camille is currently working on a national project focusing on retaining Indigenous students at school as a result of her participation on the 2005/06 National Indigenous Youth Leadership Group. Camille is also a current member of the National Youth Roundtable working on another project focusing on youth empowerment.
NAIDOC Week is a time when all Australians join together to celebrate the survival of one of the oldest living cultures in the world. Part of that is to recognise the efforts and achievements of people within the local community.
The recipients of the 2007 NAIDOC Awards were selected for their unwavering efforts to make a difference in the lives of others. All recipients are an inspiration to others in their own and in the wider Australian communities.
