Seven women from the community of Borroloola have attended CDU’s Katherine Campus to learn basic horse riding skills.

The two week course resulted in the women confidently saddling and riding horses. Some are now considering further studies for the Certificate II in Rural Operations at the campus.

Peter Dempster, Charles Darwin University remote lecturer in Agricultural and Rural Operations, organised the training. He was impressed with the women’s enthusiasm and skills.

‘It’s an intensive business learning how to saddle a horse and become comfortable with it,’ he said. ‘By the second week they were out in the big yard assisting the muster and having a great time.'

The Katherine Campus hosts workshops for Indigenous students from remote communities across the Territory.
