Charles Darwin University (CDU) student Kevin Kadirgamar has recently been elected president of the Multicultural Youth Council of the Northern Territory.
18-year-old Kevin is a first year law and business student with CDU and is one of a 12 member group to represent the multicultural youth of the Territory.
Originally of Sri Lanka, Kevin will be working closely with other members of council on issues affecting multicultural youth.
Kevin said that the honour of being elected president came as a great surprise.
‘I’m pretty excited and I can’t wait to get started on the issues and challenges ahead,’ he explained.
Kevin migrated to Australia with his family three years ago and he said that segregation was the main problem that the council would be tackling.
The council presented to a forum early last week as part of National Youth Week.
The Multicultural Society’s settlement project officer, Ron Mitchell, said the council proposed a range of great solutions during the event.
