Harmony Day on the Casuarina campus of Charles Darwin University will begin at 10am on Wednesday (March 21) with cultural demonstrations in the foyer of Building 17.
Before the opening ceremony the public is invited to attend classes in the Adult Migrant Education Program from 9am to gain an understanding of how English is being delivered to new arrivals.
After the official Harmony Day welcome at 10.30am students will deliver their own Harmony Day speeches in their first language.
These will be followed by an African drumming performance by Anne Harkin and student drummers.
There will be a fashion parade of traditional dress from 11am, followed by a taste of culture from various nations – including Italian opera, Liberian dance troupe Hawa and other cultural dances from Africa and Asia.
Harmony Day is free; everyone is welcome to attend during any part of the ceremonies.
