Charles Darwin University Community and Access has recently appointed Gillian Dadswell as manager of Learnlink.

CDU Learnlink is a new addition to the community and access portfolio and aims to enhance efforts of the University in providing effective ‘transition’ and ‘support’ programs for those returning to study.

Enabling/foundation programs and designated study skills programs will be offered as a part of the new initiative. Learnlink will also provide other support programs for enrolled students such as English as a second language.

Gillian brings extensive experience to the position having been involved in the delivery of literacy, numeracy and capacity development projects around the world.

Her posts include teaching placements in Asia, the Middle East and working locally with Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander people.

Gillian first came to the Northern Territory in 1976. After completing her university training, she taught at several high schools in Darwin and also the Adult Migration Learning Centre.

Her most recent position as Indigenous Employment Programs Manager with the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations (DEWR), involved the management of several programs aimed at creating more jobs and a stronger economic future for Indigenous Australians.

Prior to her position with DEWR Gillian worked with AusAID and was posted to the Australian High Commission in Kiribati for two years. She has also worked on development programs in Africa, Papua New Guinea, Fiji and Laos.

Gillian said she looks forward to the new role with CDU and Community and Access.

‘Education is the key to a successful life and I am really excited about being able to contribute to the lives of CDU students by creating a supportive environment at Learnlink, which will enable students to realise their full potential,’ she said.
