The School of Creative Arts and Humanities will welcome two new academic staff members later this year – Associate Professor Donal Fitzpatrick and Professor Allan Patience.
Associate Professor Donal Fitzpatrick will commence in the position of Head of School in August.
Donal is currently the Head of School of Fine Arts with the College of Creative Arts, Massey University, New Zealand, where he was also the Director of the Graduate Cinema Programme until 2005.
He is currently chair of the Wellington Research Committee at Massey University, and the Council of University Art and Design Schools New Zealand.
Donal has exhibited his paintings and drawings in numerous exhibitions, most recently at the Peter Rae Gallery, Dunedin, in 2005.
Professor Allan Patience will commence in the position Professor of Political Science for the start of Semester Two.
Allan will come to CDU from the position of Professor and Head of Political Science with the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Papua New Guinea. Previously he was Professor of Political Science and Asian Studies at Victoria University.
In 2001, Allan received the Vice-Chancellor’s Citation for Teaching Excellence, Faculty of Arts, Victoria University.
Allan is a member of the Editorial Board, The Asia Pacific Journal of Public Administration and a member of the Student Residences Planning Committee, Catholic Archdiocese of Port Moresby.
Allan is currently working on a research project A Hard Culture, a critical historical sociology of Australia’s racism, secularism, populism and masculinism that focuses on the distinctiveness of Australia in terms of its Indigenous peoples’ experiences, multiculturalism and proximity to Asia.
