Two Charles Darwin University (CDU) students were recently successful in their application for the Foundation for Young Australians Indigenous Youth Leadership Programme (IYLP).
Antionette Bernard and Quitaysha Frith successfully applied for the IYLP in February and have each received a $6,000 tertiary scholarship for 2006. In additional to the scholarship grant, funding will be provided to give IYLP scholars the opportunity to develop leadership skills.
A new national initiative funded by the Australian Government Department of Education, Science and Training, the IYLP offers scholarships and leadership opportunities during 2006-2009 to young Indigenous Australians aged between 12 and 25 undertaking secondary or tertiary studies within Australia.
The IYLP is aimed at creating opportunities for young Indigenous people, generally from remote communities, who have demonstrated potential leadership capability and want to develop their leadership skills with the support of both family and community.
Ms Bernard is a student with the School of Tourism and Hospitality, and Ms Firth a student with the School of Creative Arts and Humanities.
