New Appointments

The Nhulunbuy Campus Administrator position has been awarded to Carina Bekkers, due to begin on the 18 April. Carina has recently moved to Nhulunbuy from Victoria and brings with her extensive experience in training and human resources.

Financial and Asset Services has appointed Maria Logan as a Support Lecturer for external students studying on Learnline from the campus. Wendy Butterworth has also begun with Charles Darwin University teaching the Digital Camera workshops.

Certificate IV Assessment and Workplace Training

The new Certificate IV in Training and Assessment has commenced. The campus has had a steady number of enrolments in the course and everything is running smoothly. Students are working in mixed mode, participating in workshop tutorials and studying through Learnline, with the assistance of Joan Collins.

Visitors

February and March saw Horticulture Lecturer, Desleigh Dunnett, teaching on Groote Eylandt and in Nhulunbuy. Desleigh is based at the Casuarina campus and a regular visitor to the community. Liza Schenkel from Greening Australia visited with Desleigh. While over on Groote Eylandt, Desleigh was accompanied by Hmalan Hunter-Xenie, a research assistant with CSIRO.

Lecturer Noel Trembath dropped into the campus recently while in the region to deliver Driver Education.

Patrick Ryan came over last month to see students interested in studying the Diploma in Business and ran three classes over the weekend. Jane Baker Jones followed shortly after to spend the day meeting with Financial Services students.

Don Zoellner and Paul Fitzsimons visited in late March in to conduct interviews for the Campus Administrator position and met with local staff.

Education Lecturer, Ruth Wallace, also visited the campus and spent the day working from our office.

Senior VET Advisor Pam Morgan and the Director of VET Quality and Planning, Adrian Stephens were in town last Friday to conduct training in University policies and procedures for all current and new staff.

Groote Eylandt

Training on Groote Eylandt is moving along well. Nhulunbuy-based Lecturer, Karen Cole, has flown over to Groote Eylandt to see her Business students. Lecturer Michele Clarke, who is based on Groote Eylandt, has recently run a course in Drink Driver Education.
