Breaking THE-ICE

Charles Darwin University (CDU) last week hosted Dr Perry Hobson, Director of the International Centre for Excellence in Tourism and Hospitality Education (THE-ICE).

THE-ICE was established in 2004 as an initiative of the Australian Federal Government. The role of THE-ICE is:

  • To recognise existing excellence in tourism, hotel and event education
  • To further develop that excellence within Australia
  • To build a range of international education linkages to benchmark excellence and to encourage the free-flow of best practice ideas and students
  • To promote Australia as a place to come and learn about tourism, hotel and event management

Members of THE-ICE include leading institutions offering tourism, hotel and event education programs and who have met the Standards of Excellence established by THE-ICE in 2005. CDU is a member of THE-ICE and meetings with Dr Hobson this week focused on ways in which CDU can maximise the benefits of this membership.

Dr Perry Hobson is a recent appointment to the role of Director of the THE-ICE. He is an Associate Professor in the School of Tourism and Hospitality Management at Southern Cross University, where he has been the Head of School for the last five years.
