Charles Darwin University (CDU) will offer new certificate courses to meet growing industry demand for qualified fitness staff in Darwin.
The Certificate III & IV in Fitness courses, starting on 17 April, have been introduced at CDU in response to fitness becoming one of the leading areas of job growth worldwide.
Course coordinator, Judith Ahern, said: ‘With the worldwide western cultural epidemic of obesity, the fitness industry is experiencing a huge demand for staff to assist and motivate those who want to achieve their health and weight loss goals.
‘There is no doubt that the fitness industry provides great personal and financial opportunities for school leavers and those wanting a career change,’ Judith said.
The courses specifically cater for those currently working, or wanting to work, as fitness instructors. They cover areas such as exercise science, developing fitness programs, first-aid training, nutrition, gym instructional skills and health and safety issues. Certificate IV in Fitness qualifies students to work independently as a fitness instructor with groups or individuals.
The courses are only available to Territory residents at CDU’s School of Education, who also offer programs in sports training and sport and recreation.
