The Multicultural Council of the Northern Territory is hosting a Harmony Day lunch at CDU’s Palmerston campus on Tuesday 21 March 2006.

The program, from 12 noon to 2pm, will be opened by Palmerston Mayor, Annette Burke. For more information contact 08 89 459122 or email harmony@mcnt.org.au.

Farewell and thankyou

A fond farewell and appreciation has been extended to Vikki Baldwin for her contributions to the campus throughout her role as Campus Leader up to 3 March.

Area/course/student news

Library

A larger than usual number of students are using more library resources early in the semester. Extended opening hours accommodates students, particularly with the availability of copying, computing and printing facilities.

The new library system, Horizon, is in place. Tours and information training are available for both students and staff using cataloguing, internet, electronic databases and EndNote software.

School of Tourism and Hospitality

Oliver Budack has two courses commencing soon:

  • Wine Appreciation Course - delivered over an 11 week period from 17 March through to 26 May 2006, at Karawa Restaurant Building B on Palmerston campus.  Interested people can contact Oliver on 08 89 467864 or email oliver.budack@cdu.edu.au.
  • Responsible Service of Alcohol - taking place on Wednesday 15 March 2006 from 9am to 2pm at Karawa Restaurant Building B. Oliver Budack is the lecturer and interested people may contact Tracey Newman on telephone 08 8946 7842 or email traceye.newman@cdu.edu.au.

Student award to Wendy Seymour - our heartiest congratulations to student Wendy Seymour, enrolled in the Certificate IV Tourism (Sales and Marketing).

Wendy has been awarded the Northern Territory Government 2006 Vocational Education and Training Scholarship. An award certificate was presented to Wendy on 8 March by Syd Sterling, MLA, Minister of Employment, Education and Training. 

The bursary, $4,000, will be allotted over a specific period of time throughout the Wendy’s course. The school and campus is delighted by this achievement.
