Call for volunteers to clean up Australia

Charles Darwin University staff and students are being asked to don their rubber gloves and help clean up the environment on Sunday 5 March for Clean Up Australia Day.

Now in its seventeenth year, organisers of Australia’s biggest environmental community event are calling on your help to target rubbish clogging our parks, roadsides, bush land, beaches and waterways.

Ian Kiernan AO, Clean Up Australia Chairman and Founder, says as long as rubbish continues to turn up in the environment we must all work together to clean it up.

“Participating is easy and fun and the day is an opportunity for us all to experience the positive contribution we can make to the environment. Get involved and don’t let rubbish become part of the scenery. Make March 5 the day you start to make a difference,” said Mr Kiernan.

CDU Sport Manager, Rebecca Cox, is encouraging everyone to get involved.

“It’s not too late to get involved. Volunteers are urged to help out at Nightcliff Foreshore. Just turn up on the day with gloves, a hat, protective footwear, sunglasses and sunscreen and register as a volunteer,” she said.

Those interested in helping out on the day are encouraged to head down to the Nightcliff Foreshore footbridge near the Beachfront Hotel on Sunday 5 March at 4pm.

For further information call the site organiser, Rebecca Cox, on 08 8946 6688.

A list of other Clean Up Australia Day sites in your area can be found by visiting the Clean Up Australia website.

As an added incentive, Clean Up Australia is running a competition as a way of thanking volunteers on Clean Up Australia Day.

By volunteering, you will go in the draw to win two Qantas air tickets to anywhere within Australia to the value of $3,000. Simply complete a volunteer registration form to enter and visit the Clean Up Australia website for terms and conditions.
