Orientation Week at Charles Darwin University is proving popular with new activities catering for every taste.
After a warm welcome from Vice-Chancellor Professor Helen Garnett at Casuarina campus, it was down to serious fun with the ‘Grab a Slab’ challenge: a fitness exercise with a difference, hosted by CDU Sports, on Tuesday 22 February.
After sculling an energy drink, competitors had to run in the mid-morning sun with a log above their head; then, dropping the log, get in a snuggly-fit hessian bag, together with an oversize exercise ball and hop to the next obstacle: an army-inspired crawling work out.
Testing the bravest, the exercise was completed with more running while pushing a tyre and finished off by eating a meat pie.
Not all competitors were able to complete the strenuous obstacle course in the blistering heat with a disqualification for chewing a pie while running!
Casey Veentjer hung in there with the strength and stamina to grab the coveted slab o’beer in 3.11 mins. Jared Polain ran a close second in 3.20 mins and third was Jerwin Harrison with a time of 3.22 mins.
A great start of the semester Casey!
