New CDU role to focus on regions

Paul Fitzsimons is the new Director of Remote Co-ordination, supporting course delivery from Alice Springs, Yulara, Nhulunbuy, Jabiru, Tennant Creek, Palmerston and Katherine.

The appointment is part of a revamping of the University staffing structure to place greater emphasis on CDU’s remote campuses and learning centres.

Paul Fitzsimons or “Fizzer” as he is locally known has a strong educational background in the NT, having worked in primary, secondary, special education, post-secondary and VET sectors.

He comes to CDU from DEET, where he was the Co-ordinator of Alternative Education Programs in the Northern Territory.

Mr Fitzsimons also has publishing and media experience and is a respected weekend sports commentator on ABC Territory Radio.

His connection with CDU dates back to 2000, when he conducted language, literacy and numeracy programs sponsored by DEST through the University until 2003.

“I would like to support each of the Schools to develop and deliver appropriate programs using innovative techniques that produce real educational outcomes in remote areas,” Mr Fitzsimons said.

As part of the Community and Access team, he said one of his priorities would be enhancing links with the community and understanding their needs better so CDU programs reflect community and industry needs.
