Future Indigenous leaders visit CDU

Students participating in DEET's Indigenous Students Leadership and Mentorship Program recently paid a visit to CDU's Casuarina Campus

A group of students participating in the Department of Employment, Education and Training’s (DEET NT) Indigenous Students Leadership and Mentorship Program (ISLMP) recently paid a visit to CDU’s Casuarina Campus.

The students, who are regarded as future Indigenous leaders, were accompanied by project coordinator, Trent Harvison, teaching staff and mentors.

The program, which is in its first year, has provided 25 Indigenous students from across the Territory with scholarship grants to assist them to pursue their chosen endeavors.

Participants are also provided with a designated mentor and are currently weighing up their post-school options.

Program participants met with a number of staff from the Indigenous Academic Support Unit (IASU), and were addressed by Associate Professor Isaac Brown, acting coordinator of the IASU, on the importance of further education.

They also had the opportunity to hear about the education and employment journeys of some of the staff from the IASU’s from both Darwin and Alice Springs.

For information about the role and function of the Indigenous Academic Support Unit and how the staff within the IASU may be able to assist and support your students, please visit www.cdu.edu.au/study/indigacadsupport or contact the unit on 8946 6479.
