Last week a group of Indigenous students from Kormilda College attended Charles Darwin University (CDU) for the final week of the Automotive Taster Course for 2006.
The trade taster courses are very popular with students interested in gaining an insight into a career in trades and commencing their study pathway.
Trisha Kohlweg, secondary school liaison said, ‘Students get the “hands on” practical experience they need to help make a career decision and by participating in the course, will successfully complete a unit from the Certificate I in Automotive.’
During the course students dismantle an entire vehicle whilst learning to identify engine components, their function and the correct tools to use.
The trade taster courses are part of CDU’s strategy to increase Indigenous participation by providing relevant and accessible opportunities that encourage skill development and can lead to further study options or employment outcomes.
