Staff from the Indigenous Academic Support Unit and Student Services recently joined forces with Mission Australia to travel to Nguiu (Bathurst Island) to meet with senior students at Xavier CEC to discuss study options in 2007.
Students were provided with information about courses available, scholarships and enrolment processes by CDU staff whilst Mission Australia providing information about support and accommodation options available through the Indigenous Youth Mobility Program.
The Indigenous Academic Support Unit and Mission Australia have been working closely all year providing support and assistance for Indigenous students in the program and have undertaken joint planning for service delivery in 2007.
The Indigenous Youth Mobility Program (IYMP) is currently supporting 15 students from 10 communities, of which 10 are students studying at CDU. The program is jointly delivered by Mission Australia and Aboriginal Hostels.
As a result of last week’s visit 10 students from Xavier CEC will be invited to travel to Darwin in late November to join other students from remote communities in an assessment and intake program run by IYMP. CDU staff will assist in this program by providing further assistance to students seeking to enrol for 2007.
