White Ribbon Day 2006

Held annually on 25 November, White Ribbon Day marks the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.

In Australia more than one million women have experienced violence during a relationship, with 60 per cent reporting that they lived in fear during the relationship – 20 per cent of women who experienced violence were pregnant when violence first occurred*.

To show that you do not support or condone the use of violence against women wear a white ribbon or wrist band on Saturday 25 November or in the week preceding.

Get your free ribbons and wrist bands from the Office of Women's Policy by phoning 8999 3735 or email megan.howitt@nt.gov.au.

Visit the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women website for more information about White Ribbon Day.
