A simulated business environment, mirroring the real business world of industry partner TOLL Group, will be launched by David Tollner, Member for Solomon, at CDU this week (Wednesday 25 October).
The “practice firm” will provide an excellent platform for students wishing to train in the transport and logistics industry. Courses are delivered in a real office environment, with workstations and related office equipment.
The collaborative project between the TOLL Group of Companies, TDA Australia and CDU is funded by DEST for a TDT Australia “Enterprising Youth Project”.
CDU is delivering certificates I and II in Transport and Distribution (Administration) as part of the VET in Schools “Pathways” programs and Certificate I in Business. Currently, students from Dripstone High School, Darwin High School and Kormilda College attend the courses.
Local TOLL Group mentors students by providing them with information and on-the-job training. They also assist in establishing the practice firm to mirror real procedures and transactions into the virtual business. A full-time course is also offered for those wishing to enter or up-skill in this exciting industry.
Vice Chancellor, Professor Helen Garnett said: “These practice firms arm students with first-rate employability skills, and get them ready to launch into the real workplace. It also gives an opportunity for those in the industry to upskill, or change their career into administration."
The TOLL Virtual Practice Firm will be launched in the foyer of Building 22 on Wednesday, 25 October at 11.30am.
