Congratulations to Tennant Creek-based CDU student Shannon Johnson, who won the 2006 Indigenous Male Apprentice of the Year at the recent NAIDOC awards in Alice Springs.
Shannon completed his Certificate III in Meat Processing at CDU’s Alice Springs Campus.
In other news from Tennant Creek Centre, new staff member Laisa Whippy, lecturer in numeracy and literacy, will be working with CDEP participants from Julalikari and Papulu Appar-Kari (Language Centre) as well as ITEC clients.
Kathryn Gilbert (PTI) will deliver TRY funded literacy and numeracy programs at Murray Downs.
Geoff Aitken has been travelling from Alice Springs to undertake Future Directions skills audits with CDEP participants in Tennant Creek and Alpurrurulam. Geoff will also undertake audits in Elliott and Ali Curung.
The centre has received positive feedback from the audits which enables future planning on a number of different training opportunities. Geoff also delivers numeracy training to Language Centre clients to support their Certificate I in Engineering training.
Richard James is also working at the Language Centre with a group of automotive students.
Ingolf Eigenwillig, lecturer in food studies, will this week travel to Tennant from Alice Springs to complete training in Certificate I in Hospitality (Kitchen operations) with students from Tennant Creek High School.
The students will prepare the luncheon for the Middle Schools Professional Development Day which is being run by Dr Margaret Bishop from Griffith University.
