The Indigenous Academic Support Unit and the School of Engineering and Logistics have combined their efforts to give four year 12 students from Sanderson High School the opportunity to commence a smooth school-to-university transition.
Three of the four potential young engineers are Indigenous and all four have applied for entry into CDU’s Bachelor of Engineering in 2007.
The students, accompanied by parents and staff, met with teaching and support staff to find out more about the course, career opportunities, scholarships, mentoring and support available for students. They also toured the School of Engineering and Logistics and had an opportunity to familiarise themselves with staff and resources available.
Indigenous academic support lecturer Cheri Williams and Associate Professor Friso De Boer, Head of School of Engineering and Logistics, welcomed the group and are delighted at the increase in the number of Indigenous students who will be undertaking engineering next year.
All four students have previously attended information sessions run by the school and the three Indigenous students have also participated in the Indigenous Taste of Uni program.
